We encourage parents to put the MealViewer app on your phone for the latest updates to our school menus. You may find more information about the app and access menus by going to https://schools.mealviewer.com and selecting Pleasant Hill Elementary.

- If you have more than one child at PHES, we will send only 1 copy of materials home with your child (unless one is needed for each child). Typically, we send materials home with the oldest child at PHES.
- For the safety of our students, car riders in grades 1-5 with younger siblings in kindergarten will be at the front entrance of our school in the kindergarten sibling pickup line at dismissal.
- We will be practicing all emergency drills during the first 2 weeks of school. Then each month, we will conduct a fire drill and one other emergency drill. To familiarize yourself with our emergency procedures, please refer to the last page in the PHES Family Handbook and Calendar 2017-18.
- If you would like to send in a treat for your child’s birthday, we would appreciate your sending in a nutritious snack. Please see your child’s teacher about this.
- Students have the opportunity to run, walk, and exercise before school from
7:15-7:35 a.m. every morning. Your child should meet Mr. Cronin in the P.E. room at 7:15 a.m. if he/she would like to participate. The schedule is as follows:
Mondays and Tuesdays: Grades 4 and 5
Wednesdays and Thursdays: Grades 2 and 3
Fridays: Grade 1 and kindergarten
- Please know that we welcome you and your family to our campus on the weekend if you want to ride bikes, play on the playground, walk the track, etc. We appreciate your keeping dogs off the playground areas.

Lexington One uses a communications tool called SchoolMessenger to help us get emergency and general messages to you quickly by telephone and by email.
If you were a parent in our district last year, you will find that SchoolMessenger looks different this year due to changes related to your rights under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
However, you should just use the email address and password that you used last year to sign in at https://go.schoolmessenger.com.
New parents or parents who never set up a SchoolMessenger account
If you are a new parent this year or if you are a parent who never set up a SchoolMessenger account, you will need to create a new SchoolMessenger account.
To do this, you will use the SchoolMessenger website to create your account using the email address we currently have on file for you in PowerSchool. You can also use their free app for Apple and Android devices to do this.
Directions for creating a new account and directions for managing your SchoolMessenger preferences can be found on the district’s website. Just go to www.lexington1.net. If you are a new parent this year or you are a parent who never set up a SchoolMessenger account, you will need to create a new SchoolMessenger account using the email address we currently have on file for you in PowerSchool.

PTA forms are being included with the summer packet. Mailings included are for PTA membership, volunteer opportunities, and the PTA newsletter. We encourage you to complete the forms at home and bring them with you to Class Assignment. If you have more than one student at PHES, you may list all children on one PTA form, and only complete one form per family.
When you join the PHES PTA, you will receive the PHES PTA discount card with coupons and discounts to many local businesses as part of your membership. Families may purchase a PTA membership at Pleasant Hill Elementary for $7.00. Additional discount cards may be purchased for $3.00 with your family membership. Please make checks payable to PHES PTA. The PTA will accept VISA or MasterCard credit/debit cards. Our goal is 100% parent membership in the PHES PTA.
Our PTA has several great events and activities planned for the 2017-18 school year! You will find these listed in the PHES Family Handbook/Calendar that your student will bring home at the beginning of school year. 5K and first grade parents
We enclosed transportation tags in the summer packet for students in 5-year-old kindergarten and first grade. Please pin the appropriate tag on your student for the first two weeks of school to indicate how your child will be getting home each day. Please write your child’s name and your child’s teacher’s name on the tag.
You may pick up additional tags in the office, if needed.
Yellow tag: Bus (include your address)
Green tag: Car
Blue tag: Daycare (include name of daycare)
5K through fifth grade parents
How will your child be going home the first day of school?
It is very important for us to know how your child will be getting home from school on the FIRST day of school. This may be different from how your child will get home on other days.
Please fill out the First Day Transportation form that was included in your summer packet for your PHES student in grades 5K through grade 5. Please return it on Class Assignment or send to your child’s teacher on the first day of school on Tuesday, August 22.
PHES will offer after-school opportunities for our students again this year.
Run Hard is an eight week running group that equips students to run a 5K. During the season, students train twice a week with a focus on endurance training and the Run Hard Core Values. Pleasant Hill Elementary will have practice on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:45 p.m. Registration will open on Monday, July 31. Practice will start the week of September 11. The 5k race will be Saturday, November 4. Please note that Run Hard is a boys’ program and for students in grades 2-5. Registration will be limited to the first 24 students. You can register your child at www.runhard.org.
The Quest Zone is the provider of our after-school program. They provide care for children at PHES from 2:25 – 6:00 p.m. each day Monday – Friday. The cost for the program is $46.00 per child for the week ($43.00 for each additional child in the family). Reduced rates may be available.
If you only need occasional care for your child, Quest Zone will provide care on a daily basis for $12.00 per child. There is no registration fee, but a parent does need to complete a registration form for each child. A Quest Zone representative will be available at our Class Assignment.

A PHES student is leading the initiative to donate used bookbags for the homeless. There will be several collection boxes at our Class Assignment Day. If your child is getting a new bookbag this year, we would greatly appreciate your donating the old bookbag. Thank you!
- NEW STUDENT/FAMILY ORIENTATION — NEW DATE AND TIME!
Orientation for NEW PHES students in grades 1 – 5 and their parents will now be held on Thursday, August 10 at 6:00 p.m. in our Learning Commons. Students will meet with our school counselors, and parents will meet with our administrators. We welcome all our new families to Pleasant Hill Elementary, to Lexington School District One, and to Lexington, South Carolina!
- Grade Level Parent Orientations
Our teachers will provide parent orientations according to the schedule below. Parents will spend time with their child’s teacher and learn about the grade level curriculum, expectations, procedures and special activities. We hope you will be able to join us for these special parent orientations.
5K: Tuesday, August 15—begins at 6:00 p.m.
GRADE 1: Wednesday, August 16—students meet the teacher at 5:15 p.m. and parent orientation begins at 6:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies!
GRADE 2: Thursday, August 17—students meet the teacher at 5:15 p.m. and parent orientation begins at 6:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies!
