On April 20, Pleasant Hill Elementary will be holding its 12th annual Smile Train “Miles for Smiles” mini-marathon. The purpose of the mini marathon is to increase the physical fitness level of our students through running/walking while we raise funds through public donations to support The Smile Train. This is a non-profit charity that provides surgery for children born with cleft lip and cleft palates.
This is a special event for us here at PHES, as our PE Teacher, Mr. Cronin was born with a cleft lip and palate. Mr. Cronin was also able to see how our donations are being used when he accompanied Smile Train to Indonesia to witness surgeries, and visit with doctors and patients.
Our goal is to equal or exceed the 32 operations we sponsored last year. If we reach this goal, our students will have sponsored and given 872 students a new smile and a new life over the past 12 years.
Each student will walk or run for 30 minutes under the supervision of our teachers and volunteers during their related arts time. Parents are more than welcome to run and walk with your child. Parent volunteers are always welcome. If you would like to help, please contact our PE teacher, Tom Cronin. More information about the event will be sent home with your child.
